The album started the group down the path of traditional metal in walking a fine line between Judas Priest, Armored Saint, Metal Church and Saint but also touched upon the occasional thrash and speed metal moment. Signature tracks “The Money Mask”, “Mercenaries Of Injustice and “More Than Conquerors” epitomize the bellicose and hardy Armageddon sound in mauling with the best of them, while “(Liberation From) The Blazing Wasteland” ups the aggression and “We’re Outa Here” the all out speed either way. A more melodic side to the group’s songwriting abilities can be found in the brilliant “Nightlight”, delivering five minutes of non-stop and catchy riff driven groove, and “The Ship Of Changes”, a scintillating metal ballad highlighted by tasteful acoustic guitar. Ultimately, I embrace how Armageddon brought some much needed muscle and backbone to an eighties-metal scene that at times reveled in a bit too much fluff, hairspray and commercial hooks to a fault.

Armageddon actually came together under the name Second Chance in the early eighties after vocalist Mike Vance and guitarist Robby Lee met through an ad placed in a local newspaper. Later rounding out its line up with drummer Mark Wiley, the group began work on the material that would encompass the Second Chance demo tapes in addition to placing the track “(Liberation From) The Blazing Wasteland” on the East Coast Metal compilation from 1988. The change to the Armageddon moniker did not take place until prior to the deal with Talkingtown in 1989.

After the passing of twenty-five long years, I am pleased to announce Armageddon has received a much-deserved second chance (no pun intended) in that Vance and Lee reformed the group in 2008, and subsequent to seven years of hard work, released its sophomore album Up In Flames in the summer of 2015. Now known as Armageddon USA due to the high volume of bands going under the Armageddon heading, the group recruited current Raven members John Gallagher (contributing bass on three tracks) and Joe Hasselvander (handling all drum duties in addition to filling in on bass & guitar) to help complete the project. Many will recall Hasselvander from contributing his timekeeping abilities to several tracks on The Money Mask. Rounding out the Armageddon USA line up is Robert Bussey (Taker, The Calm & Attic Symphony) on bass and guitars.

Opening track “All Over The its unyielding aggression but also precise in terms of the front to back refined guitar harmonies. “Spinner” follows and maintains the up-tempos leanings, even faster with frenetic verses approaching the tumultuous, albeit tempering (even if somewhat) for its melodically tinged chorus. Standing out on both are the trademark lower register vocals of Vance, who continues to operate in guttural to soulful to gritty vocal territory but can still cut loose with a high-pitched scream or falsetto at a moments notice. Those into other NWOBHM vocalists such as Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Al Atkins (original Judas Priest front man) and Josh Kramer (Saint) will feel right at home with his course style.

Also of heightened capacity is “Satisfaction” in aligning a delectable but mercurial machine like precision with tsunami-guitar walls and extended stretch of elevated dual lead guitar. This one proves no frills but effective. Albums title track is another barnburner, starting to a drum solo and scream followed by non-stop angst as a more bristling side to the band comes to the forefront: chorus proves curt as it gets, while rhythm section pummels remorselessly. What the two share is a sound akin to old school Saint (think Warriors Of The Son meets Time’s End).

Armageddon USA also delivers its share of mid-paced backbone. “Wanted Man” highlights a ton of reverberant groove in this capacity, no frills with its heavy hitting demeanor in which vast bass lines and melodic guitar harmonies contest. “In Your Face” proves aptly entitled as a catchy and riff driven slugger giving rise to a freight train like chorus and cool drum solo at the end, while “Time Divider” plays up a turbulent but melodic essence with its power low-end groove and muscular overtures throughout. Inherit to the trio is the fantastic guitar lead guitar work of Lee, Bussey and Hasselvander, who combine for some skillful dual lead harmonies and soloing of an adroit nature (I am uncertain as to who handled which solo on which song but it is very well done).

The group is also not afraid to throw the listener the occasional curveball. Ballad “Allie” is first to deserve mention, which unlike “Ship Of Changes” from The Money Mask is more a classic ballad with its acoustic basis and lighter, ethereal overtones. While far from bad and not filler, it is also my least favorite of the albums tracks in that musically I feel the group could have done a bit more with it. For instance, why not instead add a rhythm guitar track to turn it into a metal ballad or imbue things with an emotional guitar solo.

Also a bit unexpected is “Hypnotized”, a dark and ominous plodder with a down-tuned aspect that almost lends a portent doom metal quality. Of note is how Vance alters his vocal delivery to remind of Alice Cooper, with “Hypnotized” as a result lending itself perfectly to turn of the century Alice albums Brutal Planet (2000) “Crazy”. Albums shortest at just over three minutes, the song basks in its flattering discord, at times slow and dire and others yielding a more energetic effect but always determined and stalwart. Vance touches upon Ozzy vocally at times on “Revolution (Peace Of Mind)”, albums lengthiest at six minutes in highlighting a pronounced melody in allowing galloping riffs and a harrowing basis to play From the opener, "Dover Beach" to the real closer "Now You Know" it's something of a study in all that Autumn means to me. I wonder if it means something similar to all of our spirits. Things retire; nature goes dormant. Maybe the very essence of Hope is like that. It sleeps, for a spell, with the expectation that it'll return. Maybe in a different form. Who knows? That's the hope anyway. They say it springs eternal. I like that idea. Hope returning with a vibrancy that only the years of wisdom and "world-worn-ness" could imbue them with... I think I've found a certain suppleness in my voice over the years that was never present in the early work. Maybe now it's because i mostly sing alone (as opposed to with a band) and it fosters being in touch with the nuance of phrasing. Anyway... Melancholy, Longing, Fear, Darkness. The artist is best known for his work in two bands from the eighties that did not always get the credit they deserved, Zion and X-Sinner. The former put out its debut Thunder From The Mountain in 1989 but disbanded before it could record a follow up release- and generate a larger following in the process. The latter might have been better known, Scott joined X-Sinner in time to participate on its 1991 sophomore album Peace Treaty, but was placed on hold at just the moment it was gaining momentum (partially explained by the burgeoning grunge scene of the time). X-Sinner remained on hiatus until 2006 when it resurfaced with a re-worked version of Peace Treaty under the new title Fire It Up and its third full length album from 2008, World Covered In Blood.

GX Project is the latest musical endeavor from the artist. A joining of Scott and Canadian guitarist Glenn Thomas, GX Project stays true to the AC/DC influenced sounds of X-Sinner on its spring of 2012 full length debut Bite Stick. Yes, the album reinforces its share of AC/DC undercurrents, but that would only be telling part of the story in that you will also encounter the occasional bluesy hard rock moment hinting of early nineties Bride in addition to some eighties metal swagger not unlike Main Line Riders and Whitecross. Throw in the raw energy of Fire It Up and World Covered In Blood and you have a creative merging of several styles to form a cohesive whole.

What sets GX Project apart is how it makes use of backing vocals, which lend a slight commercial element to its sound. Imagine the debut X-Sinner album Get It but with the guitars re-tracked to reflect greater edge and bite and backing vocals diminished to more tolerable levels (Backing vocals are fine as long as they do not dominate. And that is what has always bothered me about Get It- the album is drenched in so much gloss and polish it takes away from the bands natural energy). Finally, replace original X-Sinner vocalist Dave Robbins with Scott and you have the gritty and catchy sounds that are GX Project!

Songwriting is spot on throughout. Bite Stick presents with no skip button worthy material.

The fact is there are some killer tracks here, starting with the huge hooks to hard rock anthem ?Let?s Turn It Up? and bass guitar driven ?Love I.V.? (It is on these two in w hich that eighties metal swagger makes its presence felt). If interested in a blues heavy sound then look no further than monstrous plodder ?OMG? along with the laid back catchiness of ?Bite The Hand That Feeds? and traditional bluesy elements to ?Get Me Outa This Hell?. ?Angry Eyes? and ?Soul Stealer? represent quintessential examples of catchy hard rock done GX Project style.

Also quite good is the upbeat energy of groove driven pieces ?Gotta Get Some Love and Long Way Down (more eighties influences found on both) in addition to the mid-paced rumblings of Waitin? On J.C.? and ?Tricky Little Devil? (two more reflecting a bluesy touch).

Rex Scott continues to bring the Brian Johnson influenced vocal approach he debuted on World Covered In Blood. Similar to WCIB, he stays mostly in lower register territory in delivery the same type of bristling and powerful performance. All around job well done, although at times he can sound a bit strained when going for a high note, but take this with a grain of salt in that I am not a connoisseur of the AC/DC vocal style. So my advice would be to get the album and verify first hand, particularly if an AC/DC fan.

Glenn Thomas also puts in a strong performance on guitar, proving a fine player in complementing the material here with his razor edged playing. One reviewer, however, went to far as to compare him to Eddie Van Halen. Without a doubt Thomas has his moments (check out his soloing on ?Gott Get Some Love?), but unless your last name happens to be Carroll, Grimmark, Impellitteri, Belew or Perahia, then the Van Halen comparison is more than likely unwarranted. So let?s not get ahead of ourselves guys, OK?

Production features a bit more polish than that of WCIB (observation and not critique) but is not laid on so thick as to diminish the high energy GX Project sound. Again, this is how Get It should have been done.

The lone complaint revolves around packaging. Yes, I like the album artwork, but the single sided insert (lacking lyrics and detailed liner notes- who plays drums on the project?) leaves somewhat desired.

Rex Scott might not always have received the credit he deserved during his time with Zion and X-Sinner - again, talented bands that lacked the longevity to gain the following of some - but GX Project is certain to garner him some much needed acclaim. When factoring in the contributions of Glenn Thomas, the two have composed enough quality material for Bite Stick to potentially rank with the top releases of the year. The guitar team of Andy Strauss and Rob Clark perform capably when at their best, but more often than not their lead guitar work comes across in a manner that is sub par if not uninspired. Please note that this reflects less on the ability of the two and more on their lack of experience and the necessary time in the studio. While bassist Dean Pellen puts in a solid showing, the underplayed drumming of Dave Daubert does not always cut it. The strength of the bands sound, however, resides in the first rate melodic flavored but slightly raspy lead vocals of Charlie Clark.

Rock The Flock is held back by a low budget and muffled sounding production job. The rhythm guitar would benefit from a bit of polish, while the lead guitar is not placed high enough in the mix. Likewise, the rhythm section ends up sounding thin and muddy.

The edgy rhythm guitar at the start of the albums title track plays a reduced role in the mix once the song reaches its first verse. After the rhythm guitar returns to its place of prominence, "Rock The Flock" picks up in pace gains for a good hard hitting chorus. An instrumental passage featuring thirty seconds of insipid lead guitar work does not quite make the grade. The lyrics to "Rock The Flock" do not lack in meaning but could have been written better:

Jesus power is here to stay
Rock you into the light of day
Don't stop, rock the Flock

Carried its duration by a restrained mix of rhythm guitar, the watered down melodic hard rock of “Labor Of Love” is held back by a trite sounding chorus with an all around uninspired feel. The band could have improved upon an instrumental passage limited to several seconds of bland lead guitar work. This song is just plain bad. Its lyrics, on the other hand, are quite good:

You see through my disguises, you see right through me Lord
I can fool the people, but who's the real fool
I know I've got some problems, I need a touch from You
Please mend my broken heart, and let me fight the fight for You

"Try To Understand" commences to an aggressively driven guitar riff before slowing to a steady mid-tempo pace for its first verse. As the song picks up in pace, the same riff opening it returns to back a strong chorus conveyed in a forceful manner. Strauss and Clark are at their best with thirty seconds of top notch dual lead guitar work.

"Travel The Rough Road" is held back by its lack of a noteworthy melody line. Opening at an upbeat tempo, the song slows for its first verse only to pick up in pace for a chorus that I might describe as average-to-good at best. The lead guitar work carrying a minute long instrumental passage does not stand out in the mix as it should. "Travel The Rough Road" is a song about faith:

There is a peace in knowing that you are His
There is something there you can't resist
He gives you power to understand
He gives you light and a helping hand

Introduced to a bluesy mix of rhythm guitar, "Why Must You Run" gradually gains momentum during its first verse until it crests with an abundance of energy for one of the albums stronger choruses. The rhythm guitar takes the song through a minute long instrumental passage. "Why Must You Run" details the need for salvation.

God so loved the world He made, He sent His only Son to save
That whosoever believes would never die

"To The Rock" begins to the sound of a cheering audience that transitions to a combination of pounding drums and vocal harmonies. Once an edgy rhythm guitar kicks in, it quickly drives the song to a chorus with a good catchy hook. I wish the band had elaborated on an instrumental passage limited to several brief seconds of lackluster lead guitar work.

A nice blues flavored guitar riff propels "Answer Our Call" from front to back, the song slowly advancing through its verse portions until it builds and peaks for a powerfully delivered chorus coming across in the form of a battle cry:

Rock on in spite of it all - rock on in spite of them all...

A minute of the albums best lead guitar work only adds to the songs appeal.

The progressive influenced "Riding Out The Storm" is by far the albums strongest track. Taking off fast and heavy, a ton of guitar driven energy impels the song ahead until it transitions to a chorus that continually repeats its title in an anthem-like manner. Thirty seconds of technical dual lead guitar work follows its second chorus before forty-five seconds of rhythm guitar harmony ensues the third. "Riding Out The Storm" deals with patience and perseverance in times of trial.

You feel a problem is all you've caught
You feel confused, it comes with pain...
The Spirit speaks, He holds us back
Other times he tells us to attack
The power comes, as Father wills
Sometimes in waiting we become fulfilled

Due to both the pedestrian feel to its chorus and the fact it comes in at over seven repetitive minutes, "Sing" does not always hold up under continuous play. After the song moves forward to a blend of rhythm guitar and bass, it launches into a sweeping instrumental section featuring an overdone three minute long guitar solo. And while I appreciate it when a band displays confidence in its instrumental sound, the lengthy open air guitar solo closing out the song comes across on the indulgent side.

Rock The Flock showcases the talent of a young and energetic band with a bold and upfront message. The album, however, fails to make the grade due to the fact Messiah Prophet Band at this early stage in its career lacked the needed maturity in the crucial area of songwriting. The songs, with a few notable exceptions, are insufficient in depth and fail to hold up under repetitive and trite sounding melodies. The albums low budget production job only compounds the problem. Fortunately, Messiah Prophet Band returned two years later with a terrific sophomore effort entitled Master Of The Metal in which it displayed 110% improvement.

Review by: Andrew Rockwell

Track Listing: "Rock The Flock" (3:36), "Labor Of Love" (3:46), "Try To Understand" (4:44), "Travel The Rough Road" (4:08), "Why Must You Run" (5:34), "To The Rock" (3:55), "Answer Our Call" (5:21), "Riding Out The Storm" (4:50), "Sing" (7:09)

Musicians
Charlie Clark – Lead Vocals
Andy Strauss – Guitars
Rob Clark – Guitars
Dean Pellman – Bass
Dave Daubert - Drums

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0808/4907/6470/files/messiah-prophet---rock-the-flock-new-cd-1984-ucan_1.jpg?v=1789815944
one-bad-pig-a-christian-banned-new-cd-1986-original-demo
ONE BAD PIG - A CHRISTIAN BANNED - (*NEW-CD) 1986 Original Demo

1986 original release

2008 CD release (first and only time on CD!)

Punk/Thrash/Metal brilliance!

Iconic debut release by a band beloved by Christian rock fanatics

We bought all of the remaining copies of this rare and classic indie release by the band! Don't delay in getting it now....they won't last forever!

A rare collectible. Musically, Tourniquet's style is a mix of hardcore, hard rock, technical metal, speed metal, alternative and groove. They are able to blend all of these elements with melody and originality. Tourniquet even incorporates classical music into many of their guitar riffs. One can hear elements of Metallica, Anthrax, Hades, Whiplash, Watchtower and Shadows Fall in their music. The band consists of Ted Kirkpatrick (drums), Luke Easter (vocals) and Steve Andino (bass). For their 11th album, "Where Moth And Rust Destroy", Ted Kirkpatrick wrote all of the music, with Easter contributing lyrics on a few tracks. Kirkpatrick also played all of the rhythm guitar parts. Tourniquet even had Marty Friedman (Megadeth, Cacophony) and Bruce Franklin (Trouble, Supershine) provide all of the killer guitar solos. The album was produced by veteran Bill Metoyer and Kirkpatrick. Most of the songs on "Where Moth And Rust Destroy" can be classified as mini epics, averaging seven minutes in length. They are filled with exciting twists and breaks, containing a lot of variation ranging from fast thrash metal, mid-paced melodic sections to acoustic parts. Even a violin has been added to enhance the atmosphere. The songs are in no terms boring musically or lyrically. The musicianship is tight and the production is crystal clear. Kirkpatrick is an awesome drummer. You haven't heard drumming this technical since Neal Pert or Mike Portnoy. It's hard to believe that Easter does all of the vocals because he can sound like three different people. From soft singing and mid range vocals to hardcore like shouts. You can tell just by looking at the album cover that Where Moth and Rust Destroy is metal and nothing less. Tourniquet delivers an hour of solid metal. It's not death metal or metalcore, but thrash metal, reminiscent of Megadeth or Metallica. The Megadeth comparison is quite accurate, too, since the former guitarist of Megadeth(Marty Friedman) joined Tourniquet as a guest to add his guitar skills. These guys have been around for decades now, so fans that have not already experienced Tourniquet, but enjoy the less scream and growl oriented metal, should be sure to check this out. When I first got it I was a little disappointed because it lacks the catchy songs of their previous CD, 1998's PUPPET OF DESTRUCTION, their all-time best. Yet it sort of makes up for it in heaviness and a great primal drum sound (some whiners complain about the snare, but I love it; it sounds raw and primal).

I'm not sure what makes the songs on this one less catchy but it might be attributed to Scott Water's more aggressive vocal delivery, which comes off kind of one-dimensional over the course of the album. For instance, he'll sometimes sing the stanzas exactly the same as the choruses, which prevents either from standing out. Another problem is that the vocals are too low in the mix.

Still, the whole CD is solid thrash with a handful of highlights. The best of which is "Greed Regime," although it's unnecessarily long, followed by "Burn," which is a cover of the Vengeance Rising song, one of their best. This cover is actually better than the original. "Shroud of Science," "The Purging," "Crash Course" and "Temple of the Spirit" are other good ones. I really like the unexpected and moving mid-section of "The Purging" with the lead solo. Speaking of which, practically every song features a surprise section or two, akin to Overkill's material, which keeps the songs from being one-dimensional. The instrumental "MutaMitlu" shows off the band's progressive side, with elements of Yes, Boston and Kansas, but with Ultimatum's heavy ethic.

The heaviness of this album is augmented by a 'dirty' distortion tone, which I don't mind, but some might. Ironically, Waters criticized Rivera Bomma's excellent 2012 album INFINITE JOURNEY OF SOUL on the grounds of its "muddy" distortion sound, but THE MECHANICS OF PERILOUS TIMES is far more guilty in this regard. At least with INFINITE JOURNEY the vocals are front and center and the instruments are mixed appropriately (although I suppose the bass could be up a little louder). MECHANICS come across amateurish by comparison (in regards to production).

Nevertheless, if you're an Ultimatum fan and favor bands like Exodus, Overkill, Vengeance Rising and Metallica, THE MECHANICS OF PERILOUS TIME is a must. As far as the songs go, it's arguably their least, but it's their heaviest, dense-ist and most primal, which makes up for it, to a point. Despite my criticisms I've really come to appreciate this album and its uniqueness. It jams! It took a while, but I've really warmed up to the songs. And this is why I describe it as unique: Just listen to "Shroud of Science" and "Temple of the Spirit," as well as "The Purging," then check out the lyrics. Guess what he thinks of them?
"Dig" ~ The mournful almost dirge-like "Dig" is one of my favorite songs of the album. There is a pensiveness paired both in the music and lyrics that was not found (and still is not found) in Contemporary Christian Music. And just in case you're wondering Adam Again was outside of CCM or, at the closest, at its outer edges. This song evokes both wonder and our incomprehensible finitude, a feeling of futility balanced by a rise in hope.
"Hopeless, Etc." ~ Man can dude hold his notes! Eugene typically stretches his notes in his verses but here he holds one for 13 seconds and another for 18 seconds. Waitaminute! This aint opera! Well, this song finds Eugene reviewing his person and not liking what he sees, nothing but incredulous failings, which ultimately leads him to conclude that "I am hopeless without You". This song could be the meaningful counterpart to Beck's song "Loser".
"Songwork" ~ Deep guitar tones begin and end this haunted number that recalls some old spiritual and Christmas hymns.
"Worldwide" ~ A protest song, specifically protesting the United States' "Operation: Desert Shield". Gene Eugene and several other alternative Christian artists did what many beatniks do best: protest with their music. This protest goes far beyond the misapprehension over combat and is applied to the mournful plights of the disenfranchised worldwide, or even of the common man who accidentally takes another's life.
"Walk Between the Raindrops" ~ ...if you can. Lord tell me what kind of man makes this plan? I don't understand such a grand scam?" With equal parts funk and groove rock this song could be about a number of things such as the televangelist's fleecing of their flocks of dopey sheep or man's grasping at straws to explain away God through science. It's left open for you to decide.
"Hidden, Hidden" ~ There are some nice lyrical tempo changes and great drumming found in this delectable bite of groove rock. Eugene sings about how we need to get things out in the open, our thoughts, our feelings, our shortcomings, in order to sort them out but how fear holds us back from doing so. There are some emotional undertones as he directs the quagmire that our barring up of sins creates and concludes "I fear that it could destroy me if you reveal what's hidden, hidden."
"River On Fire" ~ A heartbreaking and personal song of personal heartbreak, of loving someone and yet realizing that you are the cause of their pain. This song presages perhaps what was to become of Gene Eugene and Riki Michele's marriage. I can't be sure of this but Eugene didn't hide behind a lot of things (though "Hidden, Hidden" might disagree). The music here moves slowly, like a quiet vigil over an empty chair once occupied by a loved one and now occupied by a ghost. There are distant memories here of hot words and short cigarettes that still burn, albeit slowly and with ashen crumble intent. The song uses the metaphor of Cuyahoga, the river that caught fire, as a way of saying that two people don't automatically go together or that a relationship can become toxic and so behave not as it is supposed to. I wish that I could mandate a few contemporary artists to sing this song!
"So Long" ~ The closing track ends on a rock groove and is itself a song about ending, about saying, "So what? What's it all good for? So long!" A tongue-in-cheek way to end the album.

Deep 4:15
It Is What It Is (What It Is) 3:43
Dig 3:25
Hopeless, Etc. 4:53
Songwork 5:28
Worldwide 2:07
Walk Between The Raindrops 3:30
Hidden, Hidden 3:25
River On Fire 5:46
So Long 4:19

TRUTH OF TRUTHS: A ROCK OPERA (*NEW-2-CD Set, 2018 Oak Records)

ABOUT THE ALBUM
*The liner note booklet reproduces the 17 page program that was in the original vinyl.

***For fans of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR & Then the lead man, philosophical and spiritually intense in the band's first two albums, decided to detonate himself on The Lean Years Tradition. Post's lyrics are angry, despondent and impenetrable. Themes of doubts cloud over the religious confession. Dissonance prevails. This became the album with nothing for everyone.

Yet what makes The Lean Years Tradition so irrelevant is what makes it so poignant. The album is always a step ahead of its listeners, musically and existentially. It makes grunge - too often a lazy genre - into something hard working, dishing out odd time signatures and smart percussion. It forces Christian identity, too often bland, through the prism of Kierkegaardian angst. The album's only soft spots ("Walking Wounded," "Halcyon Days") are where the band eases off the throttle.

Post was too good for the industry, and too good a man for the artistic underground. It’s not an easy question to answer, because when this primal driving force acts, we can’t even foresee what will happen. So if you want to see with your own eyes (and hear with your own ears) what I mean, take a hearing at “Gazing at Medusa”, the new album from North American veterans from TOURNIQUET.

All that knows the band’s work since the 90’s must have in mind that their prior personality is to build a Thrash/Heavy Metal with clear influences from US Metal. But at “Gazing the Medusa”, the band evolved a lot, putting any influences from extreme Metal genres on its music, along with modern sonorities touches. It’s modern, brutal and heavy, but still bearing excellent melodies. And to see the names of Tim “Ripper” Owens on the vocals, Chris Poland on the guitars and Deen Castronovo on the vocals of “Gazing at Medusa” is to really make everyone’s eyes open wide. And their personalities getting along with the veterans Ted Kirkpatrick and Aaron Garcia made of this album one of the greatest moments of the years. Melodic, aggressive, charming and bearing excellent choruses and harmonies… What could we ask for after that?

Ted Kirkpatrick produced the album, having with him in the mixing and mastering the hands of Aaron Pace. All works perfectly, bearing the aggressiveness of the instrumental tunes along with their charming melodies, and always showing weight. It’s a perfect sound quality, indeed. And the work of Jason Juta on the artwork for the album’s cover is really amazing, justifying the title of the album. The album’s songs are all amazing, but you can start by the following set to get used to it: “Sinister Scherzo” (a charming piece of Heavy/Thrash Metal with very good tempos and a great work on the guitar riffs), “Memento Mori” (a heavier and slower song that bears a melancholic feeling, so it demands an excellent interpretation from the vocals), “All Good Things Died Here” (a faster song, with an Old School Heavy/Thrash Metal feeling), “The Crushing Weight of Eternity” (amazing melodies and a great work on guitars), “Can’t Make Me Hate You” (a song filled with a deeper feeling and showing perfect vocals once more), and “Gazing at Medusa” (excellent melodies and what a lovely and catching chorus).

If you’re a fan of US Metal, Heavy Metal or anything of good taste, listen to “Gazing at Medusa” and be seduced by one of the greatest albums of this year!

CUSTOMER REVIEW
Nice, shorter song from Tourniquet. A preview of their upcoming album (slated for end of September, tentatively), but it's also worth noting that Deen Castronovo (drummer for the Dead Daisies, formerly of Journey) only sings on this one song. The rest of the album will feature Tim "Ripper" Owens (Judas Priest, Iced Earth) and additional vocals by longtime Tourniquet guitarist Aaron Guerra.

As for the song itself, great drumming from Ted Kirkpatrick, as always. I am pleased they finally showcased the bass guitar a little bit at the end of the song (also played by Ted). I feel like the bass has been buried in the mix since Victor Macias left the band way back when, so I'm glad it got some love in this song.

Deen sounds surprisingly similar to Steve Perry. Deen is very much a singer in the classic/arena rock style. He does a nice job, but it's the reason I gave this song four stars and not five. (Remember when Les Carlsen sang on the Live EP? He's great, but doesn't quite match the Tourniquet sound. Same deal here.)

Aaron Guerra is an underrated guitarist. I like what he does and the sound he lends to the band with rhythm guitars, the occasional lead, and gritty vocals when the song calls for it. I'm am relieved he's back, after only playing one song on the Onward to Freedom project.

Finally, Chris Poland (founding member of Megadeth) does a solid job on the lead guitar solo. I hope he and Aaron trade solos on the full album like Megadeth does. I think it adds a whole dimension to any band to have two different guys playing solos.

All in all, a cool track, and I am eagerly anticipating this record, especially knowing the lineup on the other 8 songs will be Kirkpatrick, Guerra, Poland and Owens. comeback.I wasn't sure what to expect after the Keaggy collaboration but I was pleasantly suprised by what 2011's Spirit Walk had to offer material wise. From the bluesy satirical humour of "Blood Transfusion& a CokeaCola" to a serious cautionary tale of"Remember the Devil" about not letting our guard down when it comes to Old Luci himself,to the acoustic blues based encouraging title track,Randy never disappoints. His lyrical style could be put in the same vein as his late mentor Larry Norman.Randy also takes a stab at accapella with "Life is Tough But God is Good" which threw me for a loop, while encouraging rockers "Try Havin' Some Faith"and the sincere vulnerability of "Pray for Me"gives the artist a chance to relate to his audience in a personable way.Again Randy returns to the spiritual warfare theme behind the psychedelic blues rock of "That's Where the Devil Lives",to the acoustically beautiful "Last time I Saw Eden" to the grande finale and lovingly encouraging "Finish Well" which I happened to be listening to when I received word that one of Victoria's famous street pastors Gipp Forster had passed away on his 76th birthday no less (which was April 15,2013) from cancer of the esophagus. This song really touched my heart because it was the Holy Spirit who made Gipp His chosen vessel to minister the truth of the gospel to me as a Travail recorded a two song demo in Evansville, IN. Golgotha was the first Christian song he recorded and sent off to labels. Once he found out that Travail meant labor pains, he decided to change the name of the band to Tempest. Along with the new band name came a new band. Mick Rowe and his brother Jamie (JR) started working together as a team and Mick was writing the new songs for what would be their first demo as a band … after no success with the labels, they did their next demo. “In His Name” was recorded in winter ’86 with a youth pastor from their church, 4 track recording at it best, Mick sent only one tape out to a label called “Pure Metal Records” a new metal label that had other bands like Saint, Messiah Prophet, Bride, and a new band Whitecross. The focus was on tight vocals, impeccable arrangements, and the astoundingly soulful counter-tenor of Walter himself. By the early 1980’s, Hawkins and his group of tremendously gifted singers and musicians (including wife Tramaine, sister Lynette Hawkins-Stephen and cousin Shirley Miller) had made their mark. I Feel Like Singing, released in 1982 on Light Records, cemented it. Listen to “He’s Everything,” a potent ballad that brings the solo power of Shirley Miller up front. Miller also joins Hawkins on the infectious title cut, trading leads. The tightly woven harmonies of “Hang On In There” make the song a cult classic even today. Tramaine Hawkins is featured on “Coming Home.” Already establishing herself as power ballad singer, her soprano excellence here emphasized her versatility and widened her fan base further. Then there were the duets. The ebullient brassiness of Lynette Hawkins Stephens paired wonderfully with Daryl Coley’s smooth runs on “Do Your Best.” On “Heaven,” Edwin Hawkins enters first, and then Walter takes over and blows the proverbial lid off the cut with his high tenor. Remastered and available on CD for the first time since it was first released, I Feel Like Singing is a most welcome keepsake and reminder of the glory days of Walter Hawkins. The band members sprayed us in the audience with spray confetti and Carey Womack chased Paul Q-pek around on stage during Smash the Guitar trying to get his guitar from him so he could smash it. I'll never forget that concert, and this album captures that atmosphere beautifully. I've bought several live albums over the years and I don't think I've heard one yet where the audience sounded so crazy and into it. If you love the band and never got to go to one of their concerts, or did go and want to relive those moments, you absolutely have to get this album!

Tracklist
Prelude: Green Acres Theme 1:30
Take A Look At Yourself 4:47
Hey Punk 1:39
Smash The Guitar 4:27
I Scream Sunday 3:25
Red River 5:10
Judas Kiss 2:57
Cut Your Hair 5:20
Bowl Of Wrath 2:53
Isaiah 6 4:25
Let's Be Frank 1:47
Altar Ego 2:22
Swine Flew 3:12
Godarchy 2:44
Kosher 3:50
Ice Cream Sundae 2:40
Looney Tune 1:40
Rock The Casbah 3:39
Never Forget The Cross 5:21

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0808/4907/6470/files/one-bad-pig---live-blow-the-house-down-new-cd-1992-myrrh_1.jpg?v=1789816810
mass-fighter-new-cd-2019-nltm-remastered-8-bonus-tracks
MASS - FIGHTER (*NEW-CD, 2019, NLTM) Remastered + 8 bonus tracks!

MASS - FIGHTER (*NEW-CD, 2019, Roxx)

NLTM Records is excited to be bringing you the brand new but very first recording from Boston rockers MASS.

Fighter was originally recorded back in 1982 and shelved by the label until now!

Fighter is being remastered and released on limited edition CD of only 500 pieces.
